Spectres of Shortwave :
The Radio Documentary
The soundtrack to the film was designed to also stand alone as a radio documentary.
A test broadcast was done on Wave Farm Radio and WGXC 90.7 FM in New York in 2015. Based on feedback from listeners to that broadcast, adjustments were made to the film soundtrack so that it could hold its own when the images were removed. As the film makes it's way through the festival circuit, I hope to find various community radio stations willing to broadcast the soundtrack at the same time as film festival screenings. The goal is to organize it such that when an audience is watching the film in one part of the world, people can tune in and listen over radio waves in another part of the world, very far away.
Wave Farm Radio (Acra, New York): September 22, 2016 @ 11:15pm UTC
World Premiere of the Radio Doc simulcast at the same time as the world premiere film screening at the Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
WRMI: Radio Miami International (shortwave): November 13, 2016 @ 11:00pm UTC
Broadcast over shortwave from the Okeechobee transmission site in Florida with a beam aimed toward Vancouver, covering most of North America and some of Western Europe. Simulcast at the same time as the film screened in Dieppe, New Brunswick at the Festival international du cinéma Francophone en Acadie.
CFYT 106.9 FM (Dawson City, Yukon Territories) 11:00pm UTC (3pm Pacific Standard Time)
Broadcast over FM in the Canadian arctic. Simulcast at the same time as the film screens in Sackville, New Brunswick, the town where the RCI towers were once located. This screening and simulcast takes place on the four year anniversary of the final transmission ever sent from that site. The final transmission was sent to the Canadian arctic, so it is fitting that on that anniversary, the film will screen where the towers once stood, and the simulcast will only be heard over FM in the Canadian arctic.
